Enough with the technical information.

I grew up in Upstate New York. About 50 or 60 miles north of the city in a town called Putnam Valley. I have two brothers, Steven and James. Steven passed away in 1978 when I was 8. Momma Knight and Poppa Knight live in Fort Dodge. They have lived up there since 1996.

I went to school in New York until that one day in 1986. My mother, James and myself took a vacation to Las Vegas to visit family in April of 1986. When we came back from this beautiful vacation, Momma and Poppa Knight decided to move us to Vegas Baby!!! I was 16 and going into my senior year of high school. I sucked it up and finished out my high school career in Las Vegas. I then enrolled at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I have been going to school on and off for the past decade or so. As of right now, I am off. I am hoping to enroll soon and start working toward my degree in Marketing.

Fast Forward to 1996. I am working in a retail store in Vegas. I am 26. I call the local Top 40 radio station, 98.5 KLUC. I ask the afternoon jock if I can request Vanilla Ice, "Ice, Ice Baby!!". He said he couldn't. I then asked if he was a sports fan. (I was working at a sports store.) I then proceeded to offer him my 40% discount if he were to play the song. He made a funny phone call out of it and low and behold, he played Vanilla Ice. About 2 weeks later, Cat Thomas of 98.5 KLUC came into my store and introduced himself. (He never did get that discount.) I asked him one question, at the time I thought was silly; "How do you get into radio?" Cat offered for me to come down to the station and see what goes on down there. On and off for the next 5 months, I would go to the station where I would Watch, Listen and Learn!!! Cat took the time one night and offered to put a tape together with me and give it to his Program Director, Jerry Dean. Jerry heard the tape and thought how marvelous I was. He thought I was the next Rick Dees, Don Imus and Howard Stern all rolled up in one. NOT!!! He saw someone who was willing to doing what he said and able to be taught the right way to do radio. I started doing the Midnight to 6 am show on the weekends. Eventually this lead to me running the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 Countdown on Saturday mornings. I thought I had hit the big time. Looking back at it now, running the Rick Dees show was boring. All this time I was doing radio on the weekend, I still had "regular" work at banks and retail stores.

In the fall of 1999, I sent off tapes and resumes all across the country; Arizona, California, New York, Georgia, Alabama. One day while on my lunch hour, I started to call the list of contacts from the resumes I sent off. The first place I called was Savannah, Georgia. The station is very similar to Star 102.5. The only difference is that Mix 97.3 was in the south. Scotty Snipes is the Program Director. He flew me out to Savannah, showed me the town, and showed me the station. He offered me afternoon drive and I said, "Hell Yes!!!".

So in February of 2000, I sold my house in Las Vegas, packed up the family, and brought them to Savannah, GA. I spent the next year practicing my craft. In other words, messing up and learning. In January of 2001, I started to send off resumes again.

My curiosity was peaked by a job offer in Des Moines. The afternoon jock, Andrew Z, was leaving to do mornings in Michigan and they needed someone. I called my father in Fort Dodge and asked him what he thought of the station. He had nothing but great words about it. I then proceeded to tell him that I was applying for a job there. He and Momma Knight were excited.

In February of 2001, I flew out to Des Moines to check out everything... and to make a long story short (not really), I took the job and am living happily ever after!!!
